Sparkle & Shine Birthday!

Since all of our Christmas cards have been sent out, now my focus is to create birthday cards for the upcoming year.

This week's card actually combines three challenges again.  In honor of Christmas week, Color Dare #74 on the Color My Heart blog is to use Ruby and Juniper.  On the Heart 2 Heart Challenges blog, the challenge is to use paper from the Sparkle & Shine kit and add some extra 'sparkle' to the project.  Since Ruby and Juniper are colors in the Sparkle & Shine paper, it was easy to combine these two challenges and create a card using CAS(E) this Sketch #58.

Normally, the colors are thought to represent Christmas, but I chose to create a nice birthday card instead.  The base of the card is Juniper cardstock and the fun dotted paper from Sparkle & Shine is added to the card front.  A pretty sentiment from the Card Chatter-Birthday set was stamped using Juniper ink and matted with a piece of Juniper cardstock.  Some Red Shimmer Trim, Red Glitter Gems, and decorative metal pieces add a bit of extra sparkle.

A strip of Juniper Washi Tape was added to the inside of the card to give it a completed look.

Time to Sparkle & Shine ... with a Mustache

On the Heart 2 Heart Challenges blog this week, the challenge requires SHINE!  To play along, I had to use the new Sparkle & Shine paper pack colors AND add some sparkle to my project.

This card certainly has a lot of shine and sparkle by combining the use of Glitter Paper with a diagonal stripe paper from the Sparkle & Shine paper pack.  The tree is 'built' using mustache shapes cut from green Glitter Paper using the Artiste cartridge for the Cricut machine.  The largest mustache is cut at 1" high, and then each mustache after that is 1/10" less than the previous.  Mustache/branch pieces were then layered to form a Christmas tree.  Even the tree trunk is a brown Glitter Paper.  The star shape is cut from silver Glitter Paper and a darker silver Glitter Paper is used for the background of the card base and also as a border around the sentiment frame.  'Merry Christmas' and the frame are both included in the Holiday Tags stamp set.

For simple finishing on the inside of the card, a strip of metallic silver Washi Tape was added near the bottom.

If you would like to "play along" and share your Sparkle & Shine + more Sparkle creation with the Heart 2 Heart Challenge Blog, post it before December 31 and then visit their blog to share your entry with other participants by linking your project to their post with the InLinkz tool.

My Happy Place

Finally, the last set of pages for the Album Retreat which Close To My Heart held in October.  Hope you have enjoyed seeing all of my completed scrapbook layouts!

All of the pages for the Album Retreat were designed by the CTMH Art Department and include multiple cuts from the Artbooking Cricut cartridge as well as papers from different CTMH kits with a mixture of embellishments and stamp sets.  Even though each page is very detailed, it was fun and challenging to create each of them.  Click on any of the photos for an enlarged view.

My Happy Place
For the 'My Happy Place' layout, I chose photos from many different places that I have visited as well as our home.

My Happy Place (left page)
There are a lot of details on these two pages.  The polka-dot paper is from the Sparkle & Shine kit.  Circles behind both of the Outdoor Denim overlays include patterned paper from the Frosted and Sarita kits along with a variety of cardstock colors, some of which were stamped with images from the Geometric Backgrounds and Take Note stamp sets. Framework Alphabet was used to stamp the title, and sentiments from All the Details add a small touch to each page.

My Happy Place (right page)
Embellishments include pieces from the My Crush Best Day Ever Assortment, Baker's Twine, Lagoon Houndstooth Washi Tape, Sparkles, Bronze Shimmer Trim, and some of the Base & Bling Word Accents.

Be sure to follow my blog to see all of the completed pages which I will be sharing throughout the month of November.

Hello (layout from Album Retreat)

Hello layout
On this 'Hello' layout, photos of my grandfather and my grandson are used with some Artbooking overlays which create a nice, eye-pleasing pattern.

Hello (left page)
One of my favorite photos shows my grandfather using an iPad to FaceTime (video phone call) with my grandson (his great-great grandson).

Hello (right page)
Papers from Sarita and Sparkle & Shine kits are combined with White Daisy and Kraft cardstock as well as a little Lagoon and Ruby for color.  A couple of the background pieces were stamped using Geometric Backgrounds and All the Details sets.  The banner pieces were cut using the Artbooking cartridge and then coordinating stamps from All the Details stamp set were used.  On the left page, a small piece was stamped with Ruby ink using an image from One-Way Borders.

Just Chillin'

Just Chillin'
When I read the "homework" assignment for the Album Retreat and saw the 'Just Chllin' title for a set of pages, I thought of "relaxing" as I selected my photos.  After realizing that it was intended as a "snow" page, I decided to still use the same photos.  So the snowflakes on the page, along with the title and the relaxed photos imply a double meaning for the word "chillin."

Just Chillin' (left page)
Since I chose not to stamp additional snowflakes on the page, the only stamping is the border image from the One-Way Borders stamp set using Ruby ink.  Polka-dot paper from the Sparkle & Shine kit is used for the pennant photo frames which were cut using the Artbooking cartridge.

A technique that we used several times throughout the scrapbook pages was placing the Lagoon Houndstooth Washi Tape on a piece of ½" wide White Daisy cardstock.  This creates an embellishment strip with a white opaque background instead of the muted transparent look normally seen with Washi Tape.

Just Chillin' (right page)
Considering that the page was designed for pictures in the snow, a banner with the word 'snow' was included.  When I returned home, I searched the Artbooking Shape Index and was pleased to find the word 'sweet' in the same style banner.  So I cut it using Lagoon cardstock with a similar height to the 'snow' banner and used it for my page.  Some texture was added to the Whisper cardstock along the bottom of the page using a Spray Pen mixed with Slate reinker and water.
