This is my first time participating with the Technique Blog Hop. Each month, we will be featuring a different technique that you can use with your stamping, cardmaking, scrapbooking, or other paper-related craft. Our technique this month is to use only cardstock, no patterned paper allowed. If arrived from "Judy Faye's Place," then follow along with the link at the bottom of this post to continue the Technique Blog Hop.
To celebrate the beautiful Fall weather, this card uses one of the fabulous tree images in the Always Grateful stamp set. For some embellishments, a bit of Baker's Twine was added as well as an Opaques Pearl Flourish and some Pearl Gems. In order to add a bit of texture, the Swiss Dots and D'vine Swirl Cuttlebug embossing folders were used.
For this 5"x7" 'cardstock only' card, the colors used are Goldrush, Smokey Plum, and Olive which is the combination for Color Dare #69 on the Color My Heart blog. The sketch is this week's Mojo Monday challenge (MOJO319).
UPDATE: My card was chosen as the Diamond winner for Color Dare #69!

Inside of the card is completed with the tree stamped in the lower corner using Goldrush ink.
Just to show how different cards can look with just a few changes, this is the first card that I created for this 'cardstock only' challenge. However, I was just not happy with it and decided to create another version.
Since the Heart 2 Heart Challenge this week is Seeing Double, the two versions of this card qualify for the double vision challenge.
Please visit Debi's "The Other Sister" blog for another entry in this month's Technique Blog Hop.
All papers and stamps are from Close To My Heart (CTMH).

Love the colors. Nice card.
ReplyDeleteThank you. :)
DeleteGreat job!
ReplyDeleteWow...you were "Johnny on the spot" this morning with your Color Dare entry. What a lovely card, and my soul echoes the sentiment. Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year. I think it has more to do with Pumpkin Spiced Chai Tea Lattes than changing leaves, but still.
ReplyDeleteYour card is a beautiful combination of challenges. You've captured the feel of the changing season. Thanks for linking up with us at Color My Heart and sharing your creativity.
Well, to be honest Becca I had a "head start" on the color challenge. A friend of mine is on the Design Team and when we were stamping together on Monday, she told me the colors that were going to be used for this week's challenge. :) But I don't know any of the other future color combos!
DeleteBeautiful, love the colors (Color My Heart) and love your take on the Mojo Monday sketch. Both versions rock!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Shirley. It was fun to create and a bit challenging since I was not happy with the first card and re-created it using some embossing folders for texture.
DeleteVery pretty, love the embossing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy. The first version with just the 'flat' cardstock wasn't working for me, so I re-created it with some embossing.
DeleteLove both versions of your card! In the first one, I think my favorite part is the embossed swirl on the Olive banner. Very nice touch! The second card has the nice swirl of sparkles to really make it pop! Great job covering all those challenges, too! Thanks for joining us at Color My Heart!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michelle. I was glad to find that I had a border embossing folder that worked perfectly for the banner piece.
DeleteGreat job combining these colors in cardstock only. I love both of your cards and you are very clever to find a way to use 3 challenges! Thanks for playing along with us at Color My Heart Color Dare and Heart 2 Heart challenges. Please join us again soon!
ReplyDelete:) Marie
Thanks! I did not even think of it applying to the "double" challenge for H2H until I decided to include the first card that I made for comparison. It was a perfect for the H2H challenge.
DeleteWhat a wonderful card! I love all the texture!! Nice work, Sheila!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharli. They were fun to create.
DeleteI love the multi-colored stamped tree and all the different textures in the card. Absolutely lovely! Thanks for joining the Color Dare this week.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gretchen. It was a fun color combo to work with
DeleteWhat pretty embossing! That's a great way to add texture if you're only using cardstock. Great card! Thanks for playing at Color My Heart!
ReplyDeleteSarah
Thanks, Sarah. I love the texture that the embossing folders give to cardstock.
DeleteLove the colors on both, Sheila and thank you for playing along with H2H!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol. "Double" was a fun challenge.
DeleteI love your details (like pen stitch) and circular accessories which accent the design. Glad you're with the Technique Hop!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Joy. The Technique Blog Hop is going to challenge me! :)
